Welcome to Callum Silcockā€™s awesome web portfolio...
well... my mum says she likes it.
Anyway if you haven't guessed yet I am a web designer and developer but I also do a lot of IT security and network administration.
And I have a weird sense of humour.

Lets get started shall we?

One of my major weaknesses is reading.... reading a lot... and in the last few years I have picked up a few new skills, here is a short list.

  • Wordpress
  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Android
  • Windows
  • Apple

WordPress is an open source content management system, often used as a blog publishing platform powered by PHP and MySQL. Used by over 12% of the 1,000,000 biggest websites, WordPress is the most popular CMS in use today. Most of the sites I have worked on use WordPress as their base architecture, and after all the time I have spent theming and developing this platform I feel that I can call myself an expert.
With technology and the web evolving quickly, the programming languages behind them need to keep up. With more elements and attributes, HTML5 has enabled feature-rich websites without the need for third-party plugins that are not supported on all platforms (eg. Flash). As this is a fairly new programming standard I am still learning but have already mastered all new syntax available.
In the same boat as HTML5, the CSS standard needed to update to accommodate new technologies and has done so beautifully. Allowing for much more specific selection and with new animation effects I learnt CSS3 very quickly. Unfortunately, CSS3 is not currently supported for all browsers but it is only a matter of time before I will be able to translate amazing effects onto the page.
Learning Objective-C over the years has been tough to accomplish but all worth it when being able to show people your apps featured on the AppStore. Unfortunately objective C is such a large and intensive language so I cannot say I am an expert yet but feel free to check out my highest selling current iOS application FreshAir, on the AppStore, available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Working with both Android and iOS tablets (iPad) I have not only developed applications for them but specific web layouts for clients who need their information to be displayed efficiently and appropriately due on this quickly growing platform.
As an Android user I always find myself tailoring mobile websites to conform with the look and feel of the numerous devices available. I find allowing for different types of screen resolutions and densities is the best practice to use. I have also been learning Java to build Android apps but am still at the beginner stage. Unfortunately, there are not enough hours in the day.
With most of my life spent in front of a PC, I would say my knowledge surrounding DOS goes beyond that of a normal user. Over the years I have been known to set up servers, network machines, troubleshoot computers and provide technical support during my employment. As Windows holds the highest share of machines in the business sector I have made it my mission to learn everything there is to learn about this OS. I may not be there yet, but I am not far off.

Over the years I have done a massive amount of designing, everything from birthday party invitations to websites. Here are some of my favourites:

    • Manion Photos 1
    • Manion Photos 2
    • Manion Photos 3

    Manion Photography

Thomas Manion a photographer / artist needed a digital portfolio for his work, most of which was photo based so a jquery full screen gallery was created for the best effect.

    • Cielo Pizza 1
    • Cielo Pizza 2
    • Cielo Pizza 3
    • Cielo Pizza 4

    Cielo Pizza

To draw customers, Cielo needed an unforgettable website that would whet your appetite. High SEO was run and a simple CMS was built for the owners to make quick menu changes.

    • Search Property Group 1
    • Search Property Group 2

    Search Property Group

A Melbourne based real estate company, they needed a strong online presence to attract new clients and have since achieved that goal.

As a web guru I need to keep up with different languages and styles.
My current top programming languages consist of PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML5 & CSS3. I know many more current and deprecated languages.

too many to list here
